Jersey celebrates the French language

20th March 2019

It is Journée Internationale de la Francophonie today (Wednesday 20th March 2019) and Jersey is joining countries around the world to celebrate the use of the French language.

A reception to mark Journée Internationale de la Francophonie is being held at the Bailiff's Chambers this evening on behalf of the Jersey Section of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie.

All States Members have been invited to attend the reception, as has the Honorary French Consul and representatives from institutions working in the Island to promote the use of French or cultural links with France; such as the Alliance Française and the Maison de Normandie.

It is the first time that this day, which is identified by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie as an opportunity to celebrate the French language and its use throughout the world, has been formally recognised by Jersey in this way and Section President, Deputy Montfort Tadier, hopes that it may become an annual event.
