States reject proposal to meet public sector pay claims

​The States have rejected a proposal to use money from the Consolidated Fund to meet public sector pay claims.

States Members rejected the proposition of Deputy Geoff Southern to ask States members to request Ministers to bring forward a proposition to make money available from the Consolidated Fund to fund public sector pay claims by 20 votes in favour to 27 votes against (P.20/2019).

The Deputy had argued that the current position posed 'a serious threat to the social wellbeing of the Island which requires an immediate response'.
