States meeting topics this week

This week's meeting of the States Assembly will begin tomorrow, 9 February, at 9.30am. The meeting will take place remotely and be broadcast live using Microsoft Teams via the following links:  

The meeting will begin with candidates for the following roles delivering speeches and being voted upon by the Assembly:

  • Minister for Education, with the Chief Minister's nomination to add responsibility for children to the portfolio, i.e. a Minister for Children and Education; and
  • If the Chief Minister's nomination to the above role is successful, there will also be speeches and votes on the new Minister for Housing and Communities.

A new member of the Public Accounts Committee who is not an elected member of the States Assembly will then be appointed.

 

Next, oral questions will be asked of Ministers, who are notified in advance in order to prepare (up to 2 hours 20 mins). Oral questions without notice will then be asked of the (acting) Minister for Education, Deputy Jeremy Maçon; the Minister for the Environment, Deputy John Young; and the Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré (45 minutes in total). A notification when each debate begins, a summary of the proposal and the results of each debate will be shared on the States Assembly Twitter and Facebook pages throughout the meeting, which is expected to continue into Wednesday.
