States Meeting Summary 10 December

The States Assembly was requisitioned to meet remotely on Thursday 10 November 2020 by the following members:

Public business

School closures

Deputy Robert Ward proposed to close all state-run schools from Monday 14 December for the remainder of the current school term, with provision provided for vulnerable children and children of key workers.

School closures: Amendment

Deputy Kevin Pamplin proposed an Amendment to Deputy Robert Ward’s Proposition. In Part 1 and 3 of his Amendment, he asked for all colleges to close on 11 December, and all secondary schools from year 8 upwards on 14 December. 

In Part 4, he asked that provisions in the original Proposition consider enhanced monitoring systems in place for vulnerable children; that concerns about virus transmission are classified as a valid reason for absence from school; and that access to mental health resources for children and young people continues if schools close.

School closures: second Amendment

Deputy Louise Doublet proposed a second Amendment Deputy Robert Ward’s Proposition. In Part 1 of her Proposition she asked that provision be made for Early Years pupils, and for students in exam years in Part 2.

In Part 3, she asked for extended eligibility of the Isolation Benefit for parents and carers whose children are affected by school closures.
