Scrutiny to review 2019 Budget

23rd October 2018

The Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel has announced a review of the 2019 Budget. The Budget sets out the Government’s taxation plans for 2019 and is due to be debated by the States Assembly on 4th December 2018.

The Panel will look at all elements of the Budget, including proposals on:

  • Personal tax
  • Alcohol and tobacco duties
  • Stamp duty
  • Capital expenditure.

The review will also look at the longer term financial forecasts and the implications for the States’ reserves.

Further information about the review can be found here.

The Panel welcomes contributions to its review from stakeholders and members of the public.

Deputy Steve Ahier, Vice-chairman of the Panel, commented:

“The 2019 Draft Budget Statement contains no major policy announcements, however the tax measures it sets out will affect all Islanders. We are keen to hear from as many people as possible about how the Budget will impact on them.
We are particularly concerned about the difficulties faced by first time buyers in Jersey. As part of our review, we are interested to hear Islanders’ views on the Stamp Duty proposals contained in the Budget.”
