States Assembly decisions on 2 July 2019

3rd July 2019

On 2 July 2019, the States Assembly rejected proposals that people with close links to a Parish should not be given priority to access affordable housing in developments in that Parish.  Deputy Inna Gardiner's proposition (P.53/2019) was rejected by 33 votes to 13, with 1 abstention.  States members also rejected the Deputy's proposal that first-time buyers should be treated equally, but exempting any existing Parish housing schemes.  However, the Assembly adopted the Deputy's proposition that the Minister for Children and Housing should detail and publish by the end of the year the Allocations and Affordability Criteria used to determine access to housing.  That was adopted by 43 votes to 4.

Earlier in the meeting, the Assembly rejected a proposition from Senator John Le Fondré (P.47/2019) that the States select an elected member to serve as Speaker when the Bailiff and Deputy Bailiff are unable to preside over the Assembly.  16 members voted in favour and 31 against.
