What is the review about?

​A review of the Draft Criminal Procedure (Jersey) Law 201-.

The Education and Home Affairs Panel has established a Sub-Panel in order to undertake this review. The Sub-Panel consists of Deputy S.Y. Mezec of St. Helier (Chairman), Deputy T.A. Vallois of St. John (Vice-Chairman) and Deputy R.J. Renouf of St. Ouen.

The Sub-Panel has collected evidence from key stakeholders within the criminal justice system and has held public hearings with the Bailiff of Jersey, Commissioners of the Royal Court and the Minister for Home Affairs.

The Sub-Panel has published an amendment to the draft law arising from the work it has undertaken so far and has published its comments.

Terms of reference

​1.    To conduct detailed legislative scrutiny of the Draft Criminal Procedure (Jersey) Law 201- to ensure the accuracy and adequacy of the draft law.    

2.    To assess the responses to the consultation undertaken to inform the draft law.

3.    To examine the draft legislation in relation to best practice in other common law jurisdictions.   

4.    To examine the consequential amendments to any other laws.
