What is the review about?

​A review of the Draft Sexual Offences (Jersey) Law 201- that has been lodged by the Minister for Home Affairs. The draft law can be found here.

The Education and Home Affairs Panel has started this review to make sure what is being proposed is fit for purpose. The Panel has received comments from key stakeholders and experts in the field of sexual offences law and has held a public hearing with the Minister for Home Affairs.

As a result of this work, the Panel has brought forward three amendments to the draft law.

The Panel has now published Comments on the draft Law prior to the debate on 20th March 2018.

Terms of reference

1.    To conduct detailed legislative scrutiny of the draft Sexual Offences (Jersey) Law 201- to ensure the accuracy and adequacy of the draft law.    

2.    To assess the consultation process undertaken to inform the draft law and detail the views of key stakeholders

3.    To examine the draft legislation in relation to that in other jurisdictions. 

4.    To examine the consequential amendments to any other laws.
