What is the review about?

The Discrimination (Jersey) Law 2013 was adopted by the States Assembly on 14th May 2013 and was brought into force on 1st September 2014.

Article 5 of the Discrimination Law allows the States to introduce further protected characteristics by regulation. The Social Security Minister proposed to introduce the protected characteristics in the following order:

  1. Race
  2. Sex (in conjunction with family friendly legislation)
  3. Age (in conjunction with changes to the State pension age)
  4. Disability

The consultation for the disability discrimination regulations was undertaken in 2017. The regulations have been lodged and were debated and accepted on 20th March. The Panel published a Comments paper to help inform the States debate

​The main objective wass to either present Comments or an amendment ahead of the debate of the draft regulations.
