Commissioner for Children and Young People (Amendment of Law) (Jersey) Regulations

The Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore, proposed to amend the Commissioner for Children and Young People (Jersey) Law 2019. The amendments will have the effect of reducing the term of office of the Commissioner for Children and Young People from 8 to 6 years and will allow acting or former acting Commissioners and Commissioner office staff to be appointed as Commissioner.

The States Assembly voted to APPROVE the Chief Minister's proposition in the third reading, with 42 votes for, 2 votes against and 0 abstentions.

Draft Probate (Jersey) Law

The Chief Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore proposed to amend the Probate (Jersey) Law 1998, which would provide for further circumstances in which a deceased person's estate can be released without the production of a grant.

The States Assembly voted to APPROVE the Chief Minister's proposition in the third reading, in a standing vote.

Draft Control of Housing and Work (Residential and Employment Status) (Amendment No. 2) (Jersey) Regulations

Deputy Lucy Stephenson, as rapporteur for the Chief Minister, proposed an amendment to the Control of Housing and Work Regulations. This will give unmarried partners the same rights under those Regulations as partners who are married or in a civil partnership.

The States Assembly voted to APPROVE the Chief Minister's proposition in the third reading, with a standing vote.

Amendment to Standing Orders – remote participation in States Meetings

The Privileges and Procedures Committee proposed an amendment to Standing Orders. This would introduce updated rules on how States Members could participate remotely in States Meetings if they're unable to be in Jersey due to unforeseen circumstances.

A reference back for more information on how the proposition would be implemented was called for and approved by the States Assembly, with 26 votes for, 16 votes against and 2 abstentions.
